In the late 1700s, Annapolis became the nation’s first peacetime capital under George Washington. Our wedding, on this beautiful May afternoon, would take place at the Governor Calvert House, a property owned by the Historic Inns of Annapolis.

The original Calvert House was built in 1695. The house was named after Governor Charles Calvert, who was Governor of Maryland from 1720 to 1727. But in 1764 the house was destroyed by a fire and the Calverts moved to the countryside. Over the centuries the house was rebuilt and repurposed many times. Today it is a historic hotel and venue for anyone who wants to absorb the feeling of early Annapolis Americana.

Lola and Quinn wanted a classic Annapolitan wedding, so the Governor Calvert House was the rightful choice.

We spent the early afternoon following Lola as she finished getting dressed for her day. She wore a classic ivory satin fit and flare dress with a medium-length scalloped-edged veil. She left her hair down, with slightly tousled curls and wore a red lip. She looked so refined and classically beautiful. In her hands she held a bouquet of yellow peonies and white roses.

Lola met Quinn at the alter and exchanged vows in the Calvert House’s atrium. The atrium is filled with beautiful string lights and a wall-sized photo of the Maryland State House, perfect as a backdrop for a classic Annapolitan wedding.

After the vows were exchanged, we took a walk-about around downtown Annapolis. We walked to the docks and around some of the historic streets and ally-ways of Annapolis, photographing our beautiful bride and groom.

Back at the reception guests enjoyed signature cocktails named after the newlyweds 3 pets and partied the evening away with good food and fun dancing.

When we think of Annapolis’s history, we think of the past. However, when a couple chooses a Historic Inn of Annapolis venue, they are bringing history to the present and creating a new chapter for the quaint capital of Maryland. This is Annapolis today!
