Victoria and Charles chose the beautiful Chesapeake Bay Foundation for their October wedding because they wanted to honor the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay and conservation efforts. This was a venue that was familiar to them, as teachers who frequently take students here on field trips.
This couple was very thoughtful when sourcing items for their wedding. “We wanted to keep everything local,” said Victoria. All the flowers were grown in Maryland and most were native species! These gorgeous local flowers were designed by Rhonda Kaplan and featured dahlias, pink roses, and locally grown greens. Even the beer served was from a local brewery that supports two trash wheels helping to clean the Baltimore Harbor. How cool is that?
Victoria’s dress was gorgeous! She had help choosing it with the help of her aunt who came all the way from Canada. She knew it was the dress for her when her mom and aunt shed tears upon seeing her in the gown. Charles wore lots of J. Crew, so on trend! All the groomsmen wore floral ties from Liberty of London, which is one of Victoria’s favorite fabric companies for her quilt making. Charles proposed to Victoria by writing and illustrating a children’s book about their love story, so all the guys wore lapel pins from various children’s books. So sweet!
This entire environmentally friendly wedding was officiated by a former student of the couple, “we really appreciated how personalized it was for the two of us,” they reminisced.
Victoria and Charles chose “A Sunday Kind of Love’ by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons as their first dance song. “We chose this song because our love is not about the big, fancy moments, but the small enduring things that last.”
Before the night ended, guests indulged in a delicious dessert buffet and a wedding cake made by none other then the bride herself. The cake was orange-carrot flavor with an orange curd filling, brown butter-cream cheese frosting, topped with macaroons, candied oranges and peanut brittle.
It truly was a thoughtfully beautiful wedding, an example that we can be environmentally responsible and still have a beautiful and graceful event.
