Some weddings are beautiful. Some weddings are unforgettable. Shane and Allison’s wedding was both.
When we first learned that these two planned to get married at Carderock Park, we knew we were about to photograph something special. As avid rock climbers, the cliffs and trails of Carderock aren’t just a backdrop to their story—they’re part of it.
Surrounded by their closest family and friends, Shane and Allison exchanged vows in one of the most unique ceremony settings we’ve ever seen. Before saying “I do,” they built an anchor system together at the top of the climbing area, a fitting symbol of the trust, strength, and partnership that have defined their relationship from the very beginning.
Standing atop the rocks, overlooking the beauty of nature and the people who love them most, they became husband and wife.
And because this is Shane and Allison we’re talking about, the celebration didn’t stop there.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds geared up and completed a celebratory climb together. Watching them laugh, encourage one another, and share that moment was a perfect reminder that the best weddings aren’t about traditions—they’re about authentically celebrating who you are as a couple.
The personal touches continued throughout their intimate reception. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, Shane and Allison served pies displayed on boxes from some of their favorite board games. Guests gathered around tables playing games, sharing stories, and enjoying the kind of genuine connection that made the entire day feel incredibly warm and welcoming.
There was no pressure, no rush, and no need for elaborate details. Just two people deeply in love, surrounded by the people who mean the most to them, celebrating the life they’re building together.
As photographers, we’re fortunate to witness a lot of incredible weddings, but every once in a while, a day comes along that reminds us why we love what we do. Shane and Allison’s wedding was one of those days. It was adventurous, heartfelt, joyful, and completely true to who they are.
