People are choosing barn weddings in herds as we near the end of the second decade of the 2000’s. The high eaves, exposed wood, hay bales and, of course, barn doors, make the barn venue a favorite of brides and grooms. The Southern Belle Barn in Delmar Maryland is the perfect romantic, rustic and elegant barn setting on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Debbie and Eric’s wedding was a barn dream! Debbie hung her beautiful dress with lace-sweet heart neckline on the back of the barn door. The sheer bottom skirt floated in the country breeze. To the right and left hung two simple hoop wreaths adorned with green leaves.
On the wooden table, sat her bouquet, crafted with paper flowers wrapped in sisal roping and pinned with a small photo amulet of her loved ones.
Debbie and her ladies glowed in the beautiful lighting in the suite as they got dressed. The bridesmaids wore bright blue gowns, the color of the open sky. In another room, Eric and his men, prepared for the day as well. They buttoned up their vests, pinned on their blue bow-ties and pulled on their awesome super hero socks. The boys weren’t the only ones to have a superhero garment, Debbie discreetly wore a Wonder Woman garter under her dress.
So now that you have the barn image in your head, let’s change that a bit. The Southern Belle Barn has this room with a crystal chandelier and a gorgeous velvet camelback couch. The lighting coming through the window onto the couch is the kind of light a renaissance artist paints with. Debbie clasped her bouquet, flounced her dress and sat down on this couch to be painted, … photographed. Her gaze was out yonder with her loved family, but her presence was there on that couch in all her beautiful Wonder Woman-ness.
Outside the barn the grounds offer spectacular open-range views with a long walkway, studded with two doorways for the wedding procession to walk through. Debbie proceeded to the alter, arm-in-arm with her brother, as Eric beamed with love for his bride. This wedding was celebrated with a family that shares so much love for one another.
Married they now were, we took family photos in front of the painted wooden American flag on the terrace, while the guests entered the huge open reception space. The ceiling was swathed in white tulle and the long tables were decorated with simple burlap and lanterns. No wedding is complete without a delicious meal and a beautiful cake. Debbie and Eric chose the perfect food accompaniment for the barn-theme, Mission BBQ and the cake was adorably decorated to look like a log carved with the lovers initials.
We shall call this wedding, Americana-renaissance-barn-superhero-love.
