The Willard Hotel is one of Washington D.C.’s most sought after wedding venues and considered the most historic hotel in America! The building was originally built in 1816 as a private residence, but was then leased out to become The City Hotel. The hotel struggled for years until Mr. Henry Willard was hired in 1847 to run the newly named, Willard Hotel. Over the many decades the hotel has seen its share of history. Abraham Lincoln resided there prior to his 1861 inauguration and in 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. finished his final edits on his “I Have a Dream” speech in the hotel lobby! When Georgine and Charles chose The Willard Hotel for their wedding, they knew they had a very special place to marry.
Georgine and her bridal party had a wonderful time getting dressed in the Calvin Coolidge Suite of the Willard Hotel. The girls primped hair and make-up and popped a bottle of champagne to get the day underway. The bridesmaids dressed in beautiful muted pink dresses, while Georgine slipped into her gorgeous off-the-shoulder wedding gown. The bride posed for portraits near the suite’s softly lit window, she looked stunning as the soft light painted her face and lit her bouquet of all white roses.
Charles would wait to see his bride until the ceremony, which took place in the Willard’s amazing ballroom. The room was stately and hung with a huge chandelier. Purple uplighting illuminated the room giving it a unique ambiance.
When the “I Do’s” had been said we utilized the Willard Hotel’s amazing decor to take unique bridal portraits. The grand hallways, regal staircases and golden elevators, made for some very stunning photos.
This couple wanted a royal feeling to their wedding day and decided to changed outfits halfway through the reception. Georgine is originally from The Democratic Republic of Congo and had a traditional African dress tailored just for her. The dress was handmade in Nigeria from a vivid yellow and blue fabric. Charles wore a velvet blue outfit, African in design, but made in Pakistan by a family member. These two looked so regal!
